Spring 2011 Jewelry Trends from the runway

The spring 2011 runways gave the fashion savvy a glimpse into what will be hot this upcoming spring. For fall, jewelry was markedly absent from the runways as designers created collections centered around either the vintage theme or the minimalism theme. Even with the vintage theme, jewelry was scarce. The occasional necklace or pair of earrings would pop up here or there, but there was not one type of jewelry or theme that stuck out. The models ears were naked, their necks were empty and their arms unadorned.

For spring 2011 there was a complete change in attitude and move away from the minimalism look from fall. The necklaces were large, sparking a return of the bib necklace from a few seasons ago. Chokers returned to the runway, reminiscent of the choker trend from roughly a decade ago. The bibs and the chokers on the European runways for spring were decadent, embellished and anything but minimal.

There were also cuffs on the spring 2011 runways. The cuffs were bold and featured stones, beads and other embellishments which could easily blend together with a choker or bib necklace.

The third most notable jewelry trend from the runways were long, shoulder brushing earrings. The last time the long, shoulder length earrings were on the runway in such full force was about one decade ago. Roberto Cavalli showed feather earrings. Chanel showed shoulder skimming feather earrings as well as shorter dangles which hit about mid-neck, yet were bold and easy to spot from several yards away. Dolce Gabbana went more for a classic yet bold approach to the large earring trend for spring 2011. D G showed large, gold bangle earrings reminiscent of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.

Jewelry is back with a vengeance! Minimalism has gone by the wayside as we move into the resort and spring seasons. This is a great trend to shop your closet and look for those bib necklaces from a few season ago as well as those cuffs and chokers from ten years ago. The long earrings and bold earrings might be a good trend to buy new and invest in one or two fabulous pairs of statement earrings. The styles are fresh and very different from the last time bold earrings were in style. Chanel feather earrings a bit too much? No need to fret! Spring 2011 handbag trends hot off the runway!

The New York, London, Paris and Milan ready to wear runways have ended for spring 2011, but the handbag and fashion trends reflected on the catwalk have only begun to make an impact. Let’s face it, Cheap Luxury Handbags Stores love a hot designer handbag. Women carry fabulous bags all over the Bay Area, from Chanel to Gucci to Louis Vuitton to Valentino to Balenciaga, the list goes on. Fashionistas in the Bay Area will carry a $4000 handbag while running out to Safeway in $5 flip flops from Target and workout clothes. For many women, it is not about the clothing, it is all about the handbag. 

Designer handbags generally reflect a Fashionistas personal style. A woman who carries a classic Chanel handbag is telling the world she is above the trends and looks for quality; an investment piece. Then there are the edgier yet still classic Fashionistas who live for Balenciaga handbags. Although edgy with tassels and hardware, BBags, as they are so lovingly called, are considered rather classic. The styles do not change from season to season, only the colors. Then there are the Fashionistas who have to have the current “IT” handbag of the moment. The runways have given “IT” bag girls something to look forward to for spring 2011. There were several distinct trends; some classic while other edgy with possible “IT” bag potential.

Louis Vuitton and Sonia Rykiel had the standout handbags during fashion week for spring 2011. The long shoulder straps coupled with large, dramatic tassels gave Fashionistas something to call their favorite sales associate about. Can we say waiting list anybody?

The long shoulder strap and the tassel are the “IT” bags off the runway. They should begin hitting the streets here in Silicon Valley, as well as around the globe, any minute now. Don’t do tassel’s or shoulder bags? Never fear! The north/south tote is perfect for work or the weekend. The small, daytime clutch is fabulous enough by itself yet practical enough to be paired with a tote for Fashionistas on the go. Not into it? Gold pendants are hot for Fall 2010. With the vintage and minimalism trends in full swing for Fall, jewelry has not been shining bright. Aside from pearls, jewelry has taken a backseat to the lady bag handbag trend and kitten heel shoe trend. With the return of minimalism, gold pendants are the simple alternative to pearls this season since they are understated and can easily be worn with all of this Fall’s trends.

Gold pendants were the necklace of choice for Fashionistas earlier in the century as well as in the latenineties. Fashionistas chose pendants which were either simple, yellow gold or small with diamond chips. The gold pendants that were popular were either flat circles with a special engraving such as a zodiac sign, or they were a playful shape such as an initial or horseshoe. This Fall, gold pendant necklaces are making a huge comeback in similar fashion to their last run. Jewelry designers are showing circles with engraving, shapes with texture and surprising shapes which will add personality to any Fashionistas wardrobe for Fall.

Jewelry designer Ippolita has a small and simple 18K yellow gold pendant set as a charm on a chain link necklace which is sold separately. Sonia Renee is showing a throwback to SATC by bringing back the name tag necklace  in 14K gold. David Yurman will take your heart away, and much of your hard earned money, with his fabulous yellow gold heart pendant necklace. KC Designs is showing several different yellow gold pendants with diamond encrusted designs inside of a circle such as this paw print gold pendant. Heather Moore has mixed together the military trend and the gold pendant necklace trend by creating a birthday gold pendant that contains your personal birth information. That is not a necklace that should leave anyone’s sight! Talk about identity theft. . .

Yellow gold is at a high price, especially for Fashionistas who are on a tight, recession budget. Thankfully there are options for the cash-strapped and style-savvy.
